The Philodendron Micans 'Aurea Variegated' is a breathtaking, ultra-rare holy grail vine that elevates a beloved classic into high-end botanical art. Combining iridescent velvet textures with luminous golden-yellow variegation, this collector favorite stands out as one of the most mesmerizing trailing aroids in cultivation.
Each heart-shaped blade features the signature soft, light-trapping velvet sheen of classic Micans, shimmering with coppery-bronze and rich forest-green undertones. Splashed across this plush canvas are bold, unpredictable sweeps, half-moon sectors, and fine marbling of vivid golden-yellow, lime, and warm butter-cream.
Luminous Golden Velvet Contrast
The defining asset of 'Micans Aurea' is the dramatic interplay between its dark, reflective velvet leaf surface and glowing golden-yellow variegation. As light shifts across the foliage, the iridescent coppery undertones make the aurea patterns appear almost backlit.
Trailing Elegance or Climbing Power
While it creates a dense, cascading curtain of variegated velvet when grown in a hanging basket, giving it a moist moss pole or cedar plank triggers aerial root attachment—resulting in rapidly scaled-up, broad velvet shields with intensified variegation.
Caution: Toxic to Pets
Like all premium members of the Philodendron family, this plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting any part of the leaves or stems causes immediate oral irritation, swelling, and digestive discomfort in dogs and cats. Keep it safely elevated out of reach.
Light & Variegation
▾
Requires consistent, bright indirect filtered light to fuel high-contrast golden aurea patterns and prevent leaves from reverting to solid green. Protect it strictly from harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which will quickly scorch the delicate, low-chlorophyll golden sectors.
Watering
▾
Allow the top 50% of the soil mixture to dry out fully before giving it a thorough, deep soak. Its root system is sensitive to overwatering and saturated media. Ensure excess water drains completely away from the bottom of the planter.
Soil & Humidity
▾
Thrives best in moderate to high humidity environments (55% to 70%) to maintain plush velvet texture and ensure new leaves emerge cleanly. Plant it in a loose, ultra-chunky aroid substrate combining orchid bark, coarse perlite, horticultural charcoal, and coco coir.
