The Philodendron 'Glorious' is a show-stopping primary hybrid created by crossing two iconic velvet species: Philodendron gloriosum and Philodendron melanochrysum. This spectacular result captures the finest qualities of both world-famous parents into a single, breathtaking climber.
Inheriting the broad, heart-shaped leaf width and striking white-to-pinkish veins of gloriosum along with the lush climbing habit and elongated shield shape of melanochrysum, its foliage emerges in warm coppery-bronze tones before hardening off into massive, dark emerald velvet blades that absorb ambient light.
Plush Dark Velvet & Pinkish-White Veins
The defining feature of 'Glorious' is its plush, light-absorbing texture and high-contrast venation. The silver and soft pinkish veins slice cleanly through the dark green velvet surface, giving each blade a vibrant, sculptural quality.
Climbing Velvet Hybrid
Unlike its crawling parent gloriosum, 'Glorious' inherits the climbing nature of melanochrysum. Training its stem upward along a moist moss pole or cedar board allows its aerial roots to anchor, triggering massive, cascading velvet leaf growth.
Caution: Toxic to Pets
Like all premium members of the Philodendron family, this plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing or ingesting any part of the leaves or stems will cause immediate oral burning, swelling, and sharp digestive discomfort in dogs and cats. Keep it safely elevated out of reach.
Light
▾
Requires consistent, bright indirect filtered light. Ample ambient lighting maintains the high contrast between the velvet leaf surface and its luminous white-pink veining. Protect it strictly from direct afternoon solar rays to avoid scorching the delicate velvet texture.
Watering
▾
Allow the top 50% of the soil mixture to dry out fully before providing a thorough, deep drench. Its roots require plenty of aeration and will suffer if kept in soggy, waterlogged potting media. Always ensure excess water drains freely out of the pot base.
Soil & Humidity
▾
Thrives best in elevated humidity environments (60% or higher) to prevent delicate new leaf tips from tearing or crisping as they unfurl. Pot it in an ultra-open, fast-draining aroid mix combining orchid bark, coarse perlite, horticultural charcoal, and peat coir.
