The Fishbone cactus, also known as the Zig-Zag cactus, is an epiphytic cactus. Its leaf structure resembles that of fish bones, which is the origin of its name. This plant is low maintenance and easy to care for, making it a great addition to any collection.

Light

Fishbone Cactus thrives in bright, indirect light. It mimics its natural habitat as an epiphyte under tree canopies in tropical forests. While it tolerates lower light, intense direct sunlight may scorch its leaves. Filtered sunlight or a spot near an east or north-facing window is ideal.

Water

Water thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. During the growing season (spring and summer), keep the soil slightly moist but never soggy. Reduce watering in fall and winter, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings. Ensure the pot has proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Growing Media

Use a well-draining mix, such as a cactus or orchid potting blend, supplemented with peat moss or cocopeat to retain some moisture. Adding perlite or coarse sand improves aeration and drainage, mimicking the plant's natural epiphytic environment.
