Calathea Lutea, also known as the "Cigar Plant," is a stunning tropical plant with large, paddle-shaped leaves that create a bold statement in any space. Calathea Lutea thrives in bright, indirect light or partial shade. It does well under a greenhouse-like environment or in a well-lit room but should be protected from direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves. Outdoors in India, it’s best placed under tall trees, shaded patios, or balconies with filtered sunlight.

Water

This plant prefers moderate but consistent moisture. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. In hot summers, frequent watering is necessary to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. In monsoons, reduce watering slightly to prevent root rot. Mist occasionally to maintain humidity, especially in dry seasons.

Growing Media

Calathea Lutea thrives in a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil mix. An ideal potting mix includes:

Garden soil + Cocopeat + Perlite + Organic compost (in a 40:30:20:10 ratio)
Mulch can be added to retain moisture, especially in hot Indian summers.
Ensure proper aeration to prevent compacted soil, which can suffocate the roots.
